Thierry Luescher-Mamashela is the former Assistant Director for Institutional Research at the University of the Free State and currently works at the Human Sciences Research Council in Cape Town. Previously he was a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education Studies and Extraordinary Senior Lecturer in Political Studies at the University of the Western Cape. Thierry also worked as a Researcher on the HERANA project on higher education and democracy in Africa, as well as on the Phase 2 project, Democracy, the university and student development. Thierry has become part of the Global Research University Network on the Student Experience and has been doing student leadership development across the country. He has published widely on higher education governance, student governance and student affairs. Thierry holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of Cape Town. “Student Politics in Africa: Representation and Activism”, is a book he edited alongside Manja Klemen and James Otieno. The academic publication is a compilation of research conducted by 18 scholars from universities across Africa. He also has a blog which hosts publications, training and research.
